Windsurfing
Cabarete is the premiere spot for beginner to intermediate windsurfing. In fact, it was windsurfing that put Cabarete on the world map in the late 80’s. Cabarete Bay is ranked among the 10 best windsurfing locations in the world, providing fantastic conditions with wind and waves.
The Trade Winds blow east to west across the top of Cabarete Bay. The winds start off light in the morning, a great time for beginners , the winds pick up as the thermal kicks in, bringing waves and fantastic sailing conditions.
The outer reef surrounding Cabarete Bay protects the bay some what, but beware of the shore break. Once you’ve mastered the sport, head on out to the reef for some surfing and big jumps~ but not as high as a kite
The winter months are a little lighter, but provide bigger waves. The summer has flatter waters and stronger wind conditions. There are numerous windsurfing centers along Cabarete bay for instruction, rentals and a crowd to hang out with.
