I loved my stay at the Extreme Hotel in Cabarete. Communication with the hotel (Victoria) from abroad was quick and easy so it started the vacation just right. My friend... read more and I received a warm welcome and the hotel is laid back and functional. It took a night to adjust to the heat without AC but I ended up preferring it without AC. The staff was friendly and helpful. We chose the surf and yoga package and had the best time. It's a great combination. The only downside to the package is that I found the dinner portions really small, considering lunch isn't included and we exercised a lot all day. Also, they were a few men - landscapers - who made us feel a little uncomfortable by whistling at us and staring at us, but I guess that's not really under the hotel control. Other than that, we loved everything. The town is a short distance away and really cute. There's everything you need and it's really safe, which is really important, being two women traveling. More

Extreme is not for everyone - but it's perfect for me. I return every year to Robbie, Vicky, Patricia, Jeremy, Ping the pup and Matilda the cat. I just love... read more it here. It's an eco hotel so don't expect anything fancy - no A/C, bed turndowns, chocolate on the pillows, etc. But you don't need any of that as the breeze from the ocean cools you down as you sit on your balcony listening to the lull of the waves.
Situated on Kite Beach, it's a 20 min walk into Cabarete on the beach or 5 min by bike taxi. The beach is quite but when the wind starts, the kites come out and it's just crazy.
You can just chill here but the whole point of Extreme and Kite Beach are the activities. Trapeze with Gregory, the gym with Jeremy who will get you in shape in no time, yoga overlooking the beach, kite surfing, surfing, paddleboarding ... so much to do.
The restaurant is amazing. They make a killer mojito and El presidente is always cold.
