Scuba Diving in Cabarete

Scuba diving is another way to experience the Cabarete’s Caribbean and all its hidden beauty. Go under the waters of the Atlantic Ocean is Sosua, only a 15 minute drive from the Cabarete.

There are multiple scuba diving schools is the area.  Most of them have an office along the main drag in Sosua.  When you go,  make sure they are PADI (Professional Association of Diving Instructors) certified. Certified schools will offer you and your family proper training, safety and professionalism.  It’s not worth taking any chances in this sport.  It’s worth noting that you don’t have to dive deep here to see all the good stuff – there is lots to see just below the surface snorkeling.

Sosua bay is the perfect place to scuba dive and snorkel, with warm calm waters sheltered from the north Atlantic surf swell.  For the more adventurous, there are plenty of other places to dive from wreaks to fresh water caves all along the north coast of the Dominican Republic.  On the south side of Hispanola, near Punta Cana there is even some shark diving, but a poor safety record means it’s not recommended.

There are plenty of hard and soft corals, sponges and fish, with the average water temperature between 26°C and 29°C.  Occasional aqua visitors  include Manta Rays, Whales, Nurse Sharks and Whale Sharks. Visibility in winter is around 12 metres and during the summer this increases to up to 35 meters.  Scuba Diving in Sosua is easy and fun which makes it a great place for beginners.

You can easily book your scuba diving when you arrive with the reception at the hotel
