Olympic Gold Medal and Master of the Ocean Celebrations in Cabarete.

Winning Men's Hockey Gold Medal Goal.
Sunday, the guests and staff of eXtreme Hotel headed into downtown Cabarete to Jose O’Shay’s to take advantage of the big screen and multiple televisions there to watch the gold metal winter olympic men’s hockey game between Canada and the USA. After a close, intense (and very vocal) game, Canada took the gold in sudden death overtime to the delight of the many fans located here in Cabarete. Needless to say, following the game the Cabarete nightlife was very active and celebratory in nature.
Jose O’Shay’s Irish bar did a great job of showing coverage of the 2010 Olympic Games on their televisions, especially the hockey games. For those enjoying kitebeach on their kiteboarding vacations, the opportunity to stay in touch with the Olympics while away from their home countries was always there, in a fun and social atmosphere here in Cabarete.
In addition to the gold medal hockey game, it was also the closing ceremonies at Voy Voy’s for the 8th annual Master of the Ocean surfing, kiteboarding and windsurfing competion. The Mii Gym owner’s own daughter won 3rd place in the junior surfing and kitesurfing categories. Way to go Katie!! Cosmic Kite Lounge was represented by Alex Soto and Robinson Hilario who both took home prize money. A special category was also included in the competition for standup paddleboarding (SUP). Free dinner was offered at Kahona’s before announcing the prize winners. The food was served piping hot and delicious, with many toasts to Canada.
Cheers to Canada and Crosby from your kitesurfing countrymen and fans in Cabarete!
