Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in Cabarete

eXtreme Cabarete is home to Jiu Jitsu de la Coata, a top ranked Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Academy in the Dominican Republic.

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) is the Brazilian adaptation of the original martial art, and the life style fits naturally with the athletic local population of Cabarete.  For the history of Jiu Jitsu and the history of Jiu Jitsu in the Dominican Republic, click here.

Santo Domingo native Tomas “Papo” Sone moved to Cabarete and established the Jiu Jitus de la Costa Academy after being the first Dominican pro Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) fighter to compete internationally.   Now Papo and co founder Joe Nerauter train others in boxing, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu as well as Mixed Martial Arts.   The local level has grown to the point of winning National competitions, sending competitors internationally and hosting international competitions.
