The reason why these guys were so good was because a good teacher was behind them. This teacher did not talk much, when incojonaba gagueaba and was hard put to make you care, but such was the reason why all those guys were so strong and so good with any type no matter their size, color, or nation.

When I began training Jiu Jitsu, I dropped everything else that was around me. Booty chasing, pain in the elbows, knees, toes, hands, face, neck, back, my mother and my father paying hospitals for emergencies almost every part twisted my body. Despite all that, the only thing I thought about was Jiu Jitsu returning to the academy each day. One day my teacher insulted just me as harshly as insulting to the more advanced students which lead to my first belt promotion. To be insulted by the teacher is a great achievement, as I already had won the attention of the Master.

A lot has happened since I received that first insult. I had more pain, I traveled, I’ve moved, I almost got married, I have trained with some of the best fighters in the world, I fought, I won, I lost. I am happy to live to teach Jiu Jitsu.

The list of people who have taught me, martial arts as well as lessons in life, is enormous, but the person who made me believe in myself in only one. He made me realize there are many thieves in uniform, but only one true teachers.

The monster of a man drinks, sleeps and taught Jiu Jitsu, a teacher that is still putting his hand on students like me on lthe first day. According to him, he is not a teacher, so I call him “Maetron.”

The belt I’m wearing today, like all the others, is important. But the best thing is that they do is the things to did to achieve it.

Today I’v earned the black waistband, but the best part is not the color, it isthat I can say I am “Faixa Preta below ABRAHAM Tabaré” THE MAETRON. ”

The circus school was in full swing today as well, had a very busy morning class followed by a staff training session which got quite a crowd watching them flying around! Kaiceitos circus school runs flying trapeze classes at 9.30am and 4pm everyday Tuesday to Saturday, they are closed on Sundays and only run indoor aerial arts on a Monday.

Our on site kite school here at extreme hotel has been unbelievably busy resonantly, There instructors and equipment are notable the best on the beach and it shows when you see how many students they have, defiantly something awesome to try with us here at extreme hotel, Cabarete.

Today was also an awesome day for Mi gym, the on site gym here at extreme hotel, Cabarete. They just received a lot of new work out equipment and cross fit training equipment to make them the number 1 cross fit training center in the Caribbean!

Kite beach was full of lovely ladies all here to learn or improve there kite boarding skills, we even had Red Bulls local super star kiteboarder susi mai come by and help out with the teaching and organisation of the event, Which was very much appreciated by all!

There was a huge red bull tent on the beach and free red bull being handed out for most of the day whilst the event was being run. We had music blasting out all over the beach for the whole day also, it’s crazy how abit of music on a sunny day can completly change the whole atmosphere on Kite beach!

The event was run and organized by lulu one of our resident kite boarding instructor’s, she did an amazing job and a great day was had by all! Stay tuned for the next Girls kite camp!!

The main activity here on kite beach is obviously kiting, but there is so much going on other than this, on a no wind day there will be many people involved in ping pong tournaments or working out in the gym, but the next beach down a 5 minute moto ride away has some very good surf so why not  brush up on your board skills?

We have also started doing twice monthly trips to a local organic farm with many fruits and vegetables growing that the average person has never heard of, Taino farms has been around for a few years and is a great morning activity to check it out ending in a 2 hour float down the river in big rubber rings, there is a few rapids so it can be alot of fun, make sure to were sunscreen though folks!

But even here on kitebeach, Cabarete we have paddle boarding,body boarding,snorkeling and you can even rent a sea kayak down the beach and go and paddle over the reef which is preety beautifull on a calm day! we have a very unique on site circus school with full size flying trapeze and even a very professional jujitsu training center if you want to brush up your fighting skills whilst here.

Last night we took it to another level charging guests just 250 peso’s which is around 7 us dollars and began preparing a Sunday Fun day barbecue that people would be sure to remember. Papo and Liam our resident managers here prepared flank steak with a home made barbecue sauce,pork chops,sausages,sweet potatoes, grilled peppers and chicken breasts…. there was more food than we would all ever be able to eat!

The barbecue pit is quickly becoming one of the social hubs around kitebeach, Cabarete with some turn outs of over 30 people, we even had a private fire show at one of our previous barbecues!

What a cool vibe, you get in of the water so drained and tired and just don’t have the energy to go out, whats better than sitting round a barbecue/fire pit listening to some music and meeting/socializing with new people?

Hotel guests are welcome to bring there own food, The barbecue is usually lit around 8pm and happens 3 times a week!

Today we sent a group of 20+ people from the hotel to the 27 waterfalls.  At  every level you go up there is a different pool and the jumps get higher and higher. It’s alot of fun for people of all ages, and provides a beautifull eco tour.   It’s a fantastic day that can be either organized through a tour group, or done on your own with a taxi.

But even just here at eXtreme hotel we have so much to offer when there is no wind, we have a fully equiped gym with indoor and outdoor crossfit training programs, a half pipe so you can skateboard or rollerblade, which ever you prefer.  We also have a fully equiped circus school, yes that’s right eXtreme hotel is one of only a handfull of places in the carribean with a flying trapeze rig and indoor aerial space to train in! Cabarete circus school also known as kaiceitos circus have many knoledgable instructors with many years of circus performing and teaching beetween them.

If you love to kite board then i am sure you have surfed before, well when there is no wind there is allways going to be surf. The surf beach is the next beach down from kite beach, you can walk there in 20 minutes or jump on a moto and be there in a flash.  And for those in shape, we have world class surfing right out front, which is often access with stand up paddle boards.  The stand up paddle boards can be rented here on kite beach from a bunch of places.

There is so much to do in cabarete, i have only listed a few things but there are many more unique experiences to be had here at eXtreme hotel, cabarete!

Then onto Cabarete Circus and flying trapeze. The Cabarete circus is based in the eXtreme hotel.  We had a very busy class today welcoming some very excited students to the flying trapeze class, run by professional circus trainer, Paul Roberts. There was some very nice progress made, as local trapeze artist David caught the class without missing one catch, and returning people back to the bar consistently.  We even have a professional stunt man from Toronto (we are not allowed to blog his name because he is currently filming ) and other  talented people flying though as well, which makes for a fantastic show every time we have a flying trapeze class.

We ended the class with a little instructor flying, playing about with some double cutaway halfs and double forward unders … those tricks are a real good buzz.

To continue the circus training, the circus class went  onto hand balancing.  David and Zach (Zach doubles as a circus trainer as well as a personal trainer)  were working on hand balancing act, that is to be performed at the big embocaa Cabarete party.  Much more to come on that with photos all on facebook.

Those that could do it, finished the day with some kite boarding.   eXtreme Cabarete’s  beach front location allows people to chill out by the bar whilst watching the wind pick up,  and jump into the action once the wind does.  Kitesurfing is a fantastic compliment to circus arts, as many of the acrobatic moves can transtates to kiteboarding making for new cool moves.

The north swell also continues, with waves at 4-6 ft. This morning the paddle boarders were in full force taking advantage of the waves, until about mid day when the wind filled in.

The kiteboarding school and kiteboarders were all happy to have a second day of kitesurfing, after having waited so long for the storm system to blow over. Last nights’ rain fall did little to stop the wind here on kite beach.

The Funky Carp continues to grow as the premier destination on kite beach to eat a meal, with great punctual service previously unknown here on kite beach. The hotel is full as well, and there is a good happy vibe as things are back to running smoothly here at eXtreme Cabarete.

Another day in paradise, through and through!

In between, the Funky Carp tropical restaurant was serving is daily lunch special to the anxious crowd, because the wind did not fill in until later in the day. Kites were being pumped up all along kite beach in anticipation of the wind predictions from windguru and windfinder. Some sat on their hotel room balconies waiting, others sat in the beach bar. Every half hour or so, there would be meetings and wind meters as everyone waited for the wind to come in. Sufers have been surfing the solid north swell here on kite beach, but but it was only a teaser, as it’s the kiteboarding that many of the christmas vacation kiters are here for.

The first kiteboarder out there was the tester. A 13 meter kite and a surfboard, but he could not stay upwind. As evening came the sea breeze came in, and finally the kiteboarders could stay up wind and like dominos everyone went out for a good kiteboarding session.

Smiles abound from kite schools and kite vacation ers alike, as finally Santa’s gift to kite beach arrived here in Cabarete.
